Stuttgart for students

Stuttgart University

Founded in 1829, it became a university in 1967. Essentially, it went from a trade school to international research university in roughly two centuries! Offering 73 Bachelor's programs and 95 Master's degrees, there’s a program for everyone at Stuttgart university. Around 24,000 students attend the university on an annual basis, with around 5,000 of those students being students from abroad.

English taught masters

The university has 95 Master's programmes available, with 15 of those being available for students who don’t speak any German. The English language Master's focus mostly on the natural and computer sciences with the following MSc degrees:

There are more masters degrees that are available to English speakers that also have a working proficiency in German, as some of these classes are taught in German as well. Admission for these courses requires proof of proficiency.

Mechanical Engineering

Stuttgart is the heart of Germany’s industrial complex, with the automotive industry at its heart. It’s no surprise that Mechanical Engineering has a special place at Stuttgart university.

In fact, it has a unique program that takes place in Germany, but also involves studying in the US at the famed Georgia Tech university. But, if you want to take part in this special program, you’ll need to speak both German and English very well. The two universities complement each other particularly well: facilitating deeper knowledge in the key areas of design, production, energy- and process engineering, automotive engineering, mechanics, mechatronics and engineering cybernetics. If you do make the cut, then you’ll be able to get a joint degree accredited by both renowned universities. With this degree under your belt, an internship and job Stuttgart's core industry in one of the many startups is quite likely!

Hohenheim University Stuttgart

Founded in 1818, it is Stuttgart's oldest university. What sets it apart from Uni of Stuttgart is that its primary areas of specialisation have traditionally been the agricultural and natural sciences. These days, however, the majority of its students are found enrolled in one of the many study programs offered by the faculty of business, economics and social sciences. This faculty is also the star of the university, as it is regularly ranked among the best in the country in these fields.
