Student Neighbourhoods

Vicálvaro

One of the most popular districts, once known as municipalities, in Madrid, this delightful area is situated Southeast of the city. One of it major boasts is that since 1998, it has been the permanent home of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at King Juan Carlos University. This area is very unique, offering a historic appeal, though quite opposite from that of the downtown area in Madrid. Many students on a budget find the prices in Vicálvaro very appealing. Plus, there are shops, supermarkets and reliable transportation to the university and other surrounding areas.

Aranjuez

This city is noted as the Community of Madrid’s 17th largest city. It also contains a population smaller only to that of Greater Madrid and its surrounding areas. To sustain the local economy, the area relies mostly on tourism, including hotels, attractions and more. It is very popular with those visiting the area of Madrid and its surrounding locales, especially due its well-known Royal Palace, its gardens, its alluring landscapes and the Tagus River. In fact, the city was appointed as a World Heritage Cultural landscape by UNESCO in 2001, bringing in more tourists each year, until the recession in 2008.

Many students also choose to live in this city for its affordable pricing for those on a budget. It is also lively and full of fun activities for young people.

Mostoles

Part of the autonomous community of Madrid, this area boasts a large population. Located just 18 kilometres southwest of the city centre of Madrid, it is also convenient as well. Having expanded greatly in the 20th century, Móstoles had a humble beginning as a fishing village. If you love a scenic atmosphere, you can expect to see fountains and monuments scattered throughout the area, providing reminders of the city’s storied history and a relaxing ambiance. Alcorcón

A city in the southwest locale of the Madrid metropolitan area, this neighborhood is also very popular with students. As that one of URJC’s campuses is located here, this is a very convenient home for students studying at that faculty.

Fuenlabrada

South of the city centre of Madrid, Fuenlabrada sports a mostly young population, with over 35 % of its residents under 30 years old. This has caused Fuenlabrada to develop a reputation for having a younger, working class population. There is also a campus of URJC, which is home to the popular faculties of tourism, communication sciences, business administration and telecommunications engineering, among other courses.
