Rayo del Sol Retreat is a unique, peaceful paradise nestling in a rural valley 850 metres up in the Valencian mountains at the end of a dirt road. The spacious villa boasts a large fully fitted kitchen and living room , with wood burning stove, three bedrooms, a spacious terrace shaded by grape vines and a large roofed terrace; all sitting in 2770m2 of grounds with almonds, olives and different types of fruit trees, wildflowers and herbs, pine trees, swimming pool,... Solar panels supply sustainable electricity; hot water with a diy solar system & gas. The water comes from a nearby spring, so you can drink pure spring water straight from the tap. We also collect rainwater. At the moment, the silence of the retreat is unbroken by mobile phone noise (cell phone coverage at 1 km), though fast & reliable wifi is available. In the surrounding you find mountain forests, orchards and vineyards. For star gazers, the Milky Way twinkles in night skies, giving opportunities to observe more using the villa telescope. Hikers and cyclists are free to explore the quiet roads, tracks and paths leading up into the mountains or down towards the flatter coastal land. Ancient Moorish routes over historic bridges, riverside walks, boat trips to river caves, wild swimming and even winter skiing are all accessible from Rayo del Sol. Typical Spanish bars and restaurants abound in nearby mountain villages of Andilla, Artaj, Oset,.... Chelva in particular is steeped in history and famed for the “ruta del agua” walk, whilst children can enjoy the play area at Molino Puerto, and adults the friendly bar where you can enjoy delicious, authentic Valencian paella, cooked over an open fire! Further along the river, swimming is enjoyed from a beautiful river beach at La Playeta. Rayo del Sol has a beautiful hiking trail through a gorge that leads to the village, about 3 km away, providing a pharmacy, supermarket, bank, bars and restaurants, plus a weekly Wednesday market in the town square. A typical Spanish meal cooked from fresh local produce and washed down with wine from a nearby vineyard is surprisingly good value and delicious. The hot Spanish summer climate is tempered here in Alcublas by refreshing mountain breezes, with sunshine in winter and little rain, thus giving a very inviting climate both summer and winter. Valencia, our regional, coastal main city is only a 45 minute drive from Rayo del Sol. This elegant city is well worth exploring for its mix of ancient and modern architecture. Visitor attractions are diverse from an impressive aquarium, renowned science museum, zoo and waterparks to the “Mercat Central” daily market. Outside Valencia lies El Saler, a 6 km long white sandy beach and dunes, together with “Parc Naturel la Albufara”, a large unspoilt nature reserve. Both can be explored as a joint day out.
