On the Naviglio Grande, near the Darsena di Porta Ticinese, the historic alley takes its name from an ancient washhouse that still exists, where many women washed the laundry of the Milanese until the 1950s. The narrow streets, the Naviglio, and the places characterized by different styles, eras and destinations make this part of the city unique and particularly fascinating. Today the premises of the old grocery store that sold soaps and bleach to the women employed in the wash house house a typical restaurant which, with its chimneys and coffered ceilings, has kept the atmosphere of the place intact. Darsena and Alzaia Naviglio Grande are populated by the restaurants and nightclubs most loved by the Milanese, typical Italian restaurants, trendy bars and street food stalls. Naviglio Grande, once the most important transport route through the city, is one of the liveliest areas of the city, home to delightful restaurants, independent cafes and outstanding art galleries promoting local talent. This is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the sunset over the city of Milan while enjoying an aperitif in one of the many trendy bars.
