The University of Siena commonly known as UniSi, was founded in 1240, focusing primarily on the studies of Law and Medicine. Even amongst some of the most historical universities in Italy, it is still considered to be one of the most ancient. Its main building is a stunning piece of architecture, located right in the city center in what was once the monastery of San Vigilio. There are also two locations in the cities of Grosseto and Arezzo.

There are four main departments in the University of Siena, including Literature, Human Sciences, Applied and Experimental Sciences, and Medical Sciences. The faculties include Law, Political Sciences, Economy, History, Philosophy and Education. The two departments of Science include Physics, Engineering and Medical and Biomedical courses.

Founded in 2004, the Collegio Santa Chiara, actually called the School of Excellence, is a separate part of the University of Siena. There are very high standards set for admission to the courses for Post-Doctorate and PhD programs, so it is considered very advantageous to be accepted. It is also simple to get to and from, due to its convenient location in the center of the city.

The Erasmus Student Network, also known as ESN Siena, is one of the largest student associations in all of Europe, with a network that reaches thousands of international students. They will organize events all throughout the academic year, but the most important will occur at the start of the semester. "Welcome Week" will help introduce students not only to the university but also to the city itself, ensuring that you know best how to spend your time in Siena.

Another student association, AEGEE Siena, may not be as old as ESN, but it has quickly become one of the most well-known and largest networks for international students. They will also organize a variety of events, ranging from parties to meetings with area businesses. Their main purpose is to assist in the integration of new students into the local culture, so that you can make the most of your exchange experience.
