Universities in Pisa

University of Pisa

The Università di Pisa is one of the most venerated learning institutions in Europe, and you’d do well to find a better university for your exchange. Founded way back in 1343, it has taught such remarkable characters as Enrico Fermi (a Nobel Prize-winner) and Galileo, a venerated genius remembered as "the Father of modern physics".

Today it boasts over 50,000 students and degree programmes spanning Engineering, Humanities, Veterinary Medicine, Maths and more. It is a public university, but stands ahead of many private institutions in terms of research excellence and academic rankings. Student life is a huge part of Pisa’s character and personality, and you’ll love contributing to that.

Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa

The Scuola Normale Superiore school is actually split between Pisa and its close neighbor, Florence. The faculties of Humanities and Mathematical and Natural Sciences are right here in the city, while the third faculty (Social Sciences) is based in Florence.

It offers undergraduate and PhD courses and teaches at the highest level possible. Its underlying goal is to help young scholars bridge the gap between science and humanities, as reflected by the two faculties located in the city. Students also benefit from one of the largest open-shelf libraries in the entire world, with nearly a million separate volumes waiting to be read.

Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies

The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna is a public university in Pisa which works specifically in the field of applied science. It offers bachelors, masters and PhD courses, and is an excellent place of learning for anyone in the scientific community.

The school now occupies prime real estate in the very heart of Pisa, inside a Benedictine monastery built in the 1300s. They welcome international students with open arms, with as many as 30% of their PhD students coming from overseas!
